Second season into snowskating, figured I needed a real snowskate, its a single deck with a ptex base. I ordered it off of www.daddiesboardshop.com for $80USD and it came relatively quick.
First Thoughts
Didn't know what to expect, I was really pumped to use it because it had a ptex base, skateboard style form, real foam griptape, and was twice as wide as my walmart plastic snowskate, I thought it was amazing.
Positives- Waxable Ptex Base
- Skateboard feel, thickness, length, concave.
- Tight strong premiere foam for more grip
- Thick 12ply
- Ridges for easier lock in with different obstacles
- Warranty
Negatives- Ptex around the edges slightly peel easily, straight edge not molded together
- Hard to scrape off wax in between ridges
Final Thoughts
Ist my first real snowskate, did not know what really to expect but had some idea.

Riding transition on a snowskate or snowdeck can be pretty tiring and feel very useless. The number one way to get speed for a small transition quarterpipe is to start from standing and run at it and jump on and ride up and stall or whatever and ride back down. When wanting to hit a Half Pipe you are going to need to compact the snow on the flat and the sides, when making them from scratch, if you have a higher transition and more vert, you will get more speed and go higher. You can have a lower mini pipe looking terrain if you make the flat bottom much shorter, make sure to make it not too steep, maybe a tranny of 4.6. If you are at the skatepark and you see the local mini pipe or half pipe, you want to compact it and take away any snow about a quarter of a foot from the coping or the lip.
When about to ride up the transition, bend your knees and pump down and then up so you get more momentum to carry you upwards. Before the very top of the lip you want to stall or slide do so. Make sure you lean more to the top deck. When riding down push your front foot forward with some weight and lean forward while bending down and pumping. When you are riding right after the tranny and on the flat you want to unbend and ride the flat and then bend and pump again if there is another Quarter Pipe or transition obstacle.

Before you try backside tailslides you should be fairly comfortable sliding backwards. You should also be comfortable with the object your trying it on(A flat box or low rail is best).
You want to do is approach the object you want to tailslide at a comfortable speed. When you pop off the kicker turn 90 degrees and plant your back foot on the edge of the object while maintaining your balance. Once your in the tailside you can look under your arm or over your shoulder to see where your sliding. As you approach the end of whatever your sliding turn back 90 degrees and land.
If your not comfortable with popping directly into the tailside at first, you can pop into a smith and then slide out onto your tail until your comfortable with it.

Well, if you're looking for some new goggles, check this out, it can hopefully help you out.
Make sure they have good ventilation, you don't want hot, moist air hanging out around your eyes all day, it's just annoying and uncomfortable.
Make sure they're anti-fog, you don't want your goggles fogging up all day.
Make sure they're made for winter sports, different sports have different standards.
Don't just go for the cheapest pair, there's a difference between those $20 goggles at a generic sports store and the $130 Dragon Maces at your local snow shop.
You don't want goggles that have distortion. If you don't know what I'm talking about, if you ever see pictures in magazines or parts in videos that where filmed with fish eyes, thats the distortion I'm talking about.
If you have a helmet, make sure they fit with your helmet on, a lot of goggles wont work with a helmet.
Most importantly, make sure they block UV rays, it can and will totally wreck your day if you can't see because the sun is reflecting off of the snow.
