Stances
As some of you may know, I am totally new to snowboarding. So could somebody give me a list of the stances and a general explanation of each one?
-Thanks. |

regular - left foot forward.
goofy - right foot forward. If you don't know which one you are and you need to know to put your bindings on, just slide on some slippery floor and see which foot you slide with in front. Pretty stupid idea, but that what it says on the binding manual. :P |

First you have to find which was is normal for you. Regular or goofy. Which is your main foot? When you kick a soccer ball which foot do you use? Most people use their right foot, and therefor your right foot goes on the back of your snowboard. This is the regular stance.
If you used your left foot, then that foot goes on the back and you are goofy. Switch is the opposite of whatever stance you are. Then there are the angles of the bindings. Usually the front one is around the 20 degree area, and the back is anywhere from 0 to -20 ish. This all depends on what you find comfortable though. There is no set angles that work for everyone. |

I'm riding 21 in the front and -18 in the back.
It looks like this ![]() ![]() The reason for the angles is it's more comfortable to control. The toes are pointing away from each other because when you're riding switch, you don't want to have your body facing back up the hill, that would just be awkward. They're spread apart pretty far because it gives you more control over your board. If you overdo it, it will give you the opposite effect and make it harder to control. I'm a pretty big guy, I'm 6' and 160 pounds to depending on how big you are, your stance could be totally different then mine. This is just how I ride, not how you have to. Everyone has their opinions on stance though but I think most can pretty much agree with me here. You're pretty much set as long as it's not uncomfortable.
