First off this is NOT exact plans, Its just some key things to take into consideration when building a box. Alright, So you wanna build a box to get your shred on. The following are essentials for you to build an insane box:
Size: You want your box to be of decent size, length and width wise. IF its too short you will have a "slappy or miss" type of box, and if its too long you will slide for miles and stop short of the end. A particularly good size is anywhere from 10-15 feet long and 2-2.5 feet wide.
Structure: Structure is almost everything when building a box. If you have too much wood its going to be heavy and immobile, and if you have a weak structure your going to go to bust out a back tail 270 and end up just busting your head open. when thinking about structure you need to take into consideration location and mobilization as stated earlier, like if your box is going to set in one spot year round you might be able to make it a bit heavier.
Supplies:
Wood: Obviously one of the most important parts of the box because it is what the entire thing is made out of.
Weather/Water proofing sealant: Almost if not more important than the wood itself, it is needed to treat the wood you use in your box so that it isn't as easily effected by snow/rain when riding and can drastically improve the life of your box.
Screws: This part is one of the most overlooked parts of building a box. You think "Well I have those old rusty ones left in the back of the garage" but what you don't think about is that rusty or previously used screws are weaker and more prone to breakage. Just go buy a ton of stainless steal screws long enough to hold all your wood together tightly and you should be fine.
Topsheets: Finally, its time to discuss the most frequently asked question on this message board "What kind of top sheet should box regularly and take care of it right it will pay itself off in the long run. The best type of material I have used/seen used is type of plexi glass called "Lexan" however it is not your only option, just about any type of plexi glass or hard sheet of plastic with work.
Final words: Building your own box is awesome, I've had so much fun on them over the past few winters and I've seen well built ones and badly built ones. but please, before you decide to just build a box, think about your Location, Practicality and Money situation. If your in a place with a decent hill near by and they owner doesn't care to let you use it and you get a moderate amount of snow go for it. but if your somewhere thats flat and hardly gets any snow don't bother, its a waste of your money and time. Secondly DON'T HALF ASS THE BUILDING PROCESS SO YOU CAN RIDE IT FASTER!!! It will pay off 1,000 times more than a rush job I promise you. Finally, if you can't cut a straight line, order the wood precut to your dimensions so you don't have a crooked or lop sided box. Sure ti cost more but its worth it.
I hope my guide has helped you out.
NOW GO BUILD THAT BOX!
