What is Snowskating?
Snowskating is a sport very similar to skateboarding. However, it is done in the snow. You can do all the same tricks as on a skateboard. Snowskating is a great way to practice your skating.

Equipment
Boards
There are 3 differen kinds of boards used for snowskating.
Single Decks

A single deck snowskate looks like a regular skate deck. There are a few differences though. The tail and nose kick up a little bit more than the tail and nose on a skate deck. This is key for getting good pop in the snow. Also, most boards a little bit longer and wider and a skate deck. On the bottom of the board, there are channels, or grooves, to help you ride straight. You can purchase wood and plastic single deck snowskates. A good company is Premier. http://www.premiersnowsk8.com/index

Ollie into Bank-Snowskate
By pop shove kid at 21/01/2007 - 3:54am
This is a pretty fun trick and you should learn these before doing any other tricks into a bank. It is a pretty basic trick. You start on the top of the bank, and ollie onto the slant and ride down.

Should already be able to do
Consistent and confident with your ollies.
Ride down the bank you are going onto.

Set Up
Set up exactly like you would if you were doing an ollie. Back foot on the tail, front foot somewhere in the middle.

Performing the trick
1. Get a little bit of speed so you can get to start of the slant of the bank. Also set your feet up.
2. Crouch and get ready to ollie.
3. Pop the tail down, drag your front foot up, and jump up, just like an ollie.
4. Once you are at the maximum height of your ollie, start to lean forward and push the nose of the board down with your front foot so that it goes at about the same angle as the bank.
5. Land on the bank and keep your weight centered, stay directly over the board. Ride down the bank and ride away.

Riding Transition (snowskate)
By Jeffererey at 12/01/2007 - 2:46am
Riding transition on a snowskate or snowdeck can be pretty tiring and feel very useless. The number one way to get speed for a small transition quarterpipe is to start from standing and run at it and jump on and ride up and stall or whatever and ride back down. When wanting to hit a Half Pipe you are going to need to compact the snow on the flat and the sides, when making them from scratch, if you have a higher transition and more vert, you will get more speed and go higher. You can have a lower mini pipe looking terrain if you make the flat bottom much shorter, make sure to make it not too steep, maybe a tranny of 4.6. If you are at the skatepark and you see the local mini pipe or half pipe, you want to compact it and take away any snow about a quarter of a foot from the coping or the lip.

When about to ride up the transition, bend your knees and pump down and then up so you get more momentum to carry you upwards. Before the very top of the lip you want to stall or slide do so. Make sure you lean more to the top deck. When riding down push your front foot forward with some weight and lean forward while bending down and pumping. When you are riding right after the tranny and on the flat you want to unbend and ride the flat and then bend and pump again if there is another Quarter Pipe or transition obstacle.

Landing Switch (to fakie)
By Jeffererey at 24/12/2006 - 9:21am
A lot of people find it hard to land backwards, switch, or "to fakie" off of a jump, rail, or other obstacles. There's a lot of factors that can screw it up pretty easily.

When you land you don't want to keep pressure on the nose (in switch position) but you want to keep pressure on the tail (which would be your nose while riding regular). Make sure to land on the right side with some pressure like stated, to try and minimize toe drag, and to turn your head fully around which will turn your arms, shoulders, and hips. When riding away, bend your knees and use your arms for balance.

Try this on flat, powerslide into a 180 and ride switch/fakie. Go to a box and 180 off of it from a 50, take it to rails or 180 grab tricks off of jumps, and even wallrides and quarterpipes.
